Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween is held in October every year. On that day, teachers and students wear different costumes to pretend to be their favourite characters. Students can also learn English vocabulary and understand more about Western culture through playing different stall games and making handcrafts.
English Days
English Days usually last for 2 days. During the English Days, students play hunting game at school. Clues are stuck around the school, so students have to find them and solve the problems.
English Competition
Students are divided into 4 groups to represent their houses in the competition. The representatives in each house need to answer certain types of questions, including phonics, spelling and word guessing. Apart from English knowledge, it enables students to apply their problem-solving and communication skills to answer questions in teams in the competition.
Regular Thematic English Game
NET teacher holds regular thematic English game every year in order to enhance students’ English proficiency. Students are required to find the answers from the selected songs. Last year, “Sound Hunters” was launched for students to participate. Students had to find the correct vocabulary of the correct sounds from songs. This year, “TV Time” is going to launched on Tuesdays. NET teacher introduces some target phrases and sentences during the afternoon assembly. Students have to find the correct phrases or sentences from video clips.
Field Trips
NET teacher and some English teachers bring some students to go on field trips every year so as to help students learn English in an authentic context and environment. Last year, 14 P.4-6 students joined the “Kowloon Walled City & Food Adventure Tour” organized by Walk in Hong Kong. Students were able to learn Chinese culture and eat various traditional food during the trip. Besides, 12 P.3 students participated in the Pizza Making Workshop organized by Mama Mia! Pizzeria. Students were able to learn how to write a recipe in English and make their own pizza with different ingredients.
YouTubers
YouTubers is an extra-curricular activity for P.3-6 students to join after school. It is conducted in English and launched by NET teacher and English teachers. Through joining the team, students can learn various skills of video shooting and editing from school teachers and professionals. Besides, students have different chances to work with peers and create their own video clips. Every year, students join the Filmit Competition which is organized by NET Section. Students form groups and create a 1-minute video clip for the competition.
General English (Primary 1-6)
Five English classes are dedicated to the GE lessons per grade in P.1-P.6. English teachers adopt appropriate e-learning tools, such as Wordwall, Kahoot! and Quizizz in the lessons to help students acquire English knowledge and facilitate their learning. It is important to help students become a self-directed learner, and therefore we encourage students to check the meaning of the vocabulary and play the matching game on Wordwall before starting to learn a new chapter.
To build students' learning confidence and reduce their learning difficulties, tier-2 support is provided for less able students. This year, pull-out classes are provided for some P.4 students and co-teaching approach is adopted in P.4 English lessons. Besides, morning tutorial lessons are launched to help some P.2 and P.3 students strengthen their English foundations and improve their language skills.
For enhancing English teachers' professionalism, students' positive values and attitude, our school has applied the “Learning Hub @ The NET Section” which is offered by EDB this year. By receiving the support, we aim to integrate values education in the English lessons and activities in order to cultivate students' positive values and thoughts.
NET Scheme
Three English classes per week are dedicated to the PLPRW programme per grade in P.1-P.3. It offers students an opportunity to integrate all language skills - with a focus on reading and writing - to make language learning comprehensive, consistent and fun. There are six units of work per year with related resources such as big books, small books and phonics books. Furthermore, e-learning resources have been developed to enhance student learning and allow for the continuation of learning in settings outside of school. Multiple teaching strategies are employed including shared reading, shared writing, and guided reading. Students have opportunities to work as a class, a group, in pairs, and individually. Levelled worksheet packages are used to consolidate learning and to accommodate different student abilities.
KEYS2 (Primary 4-6)
Three English classes per week are dedicated to the Keys2 programme per grade in P.4-P.6. This program aims to develop students' reading and writing skills progressively throughout Key Stage 2 by strengthening and building upon skills previously learned in Key Stage 1. It contains four units of work per year level. It exposes students to a variety of authentic texts and helps students improve their writing through the use of shared and process writing. Levelled worksheet packages are created to help students consolidate their learning and provide a place to organize their ideas for process writing. It also provides checklists for writing and self-assessment. E-learning options are provided for students to publish their writing and share it with whomever they please.
