Curriculum

Five English lessons per week are allocated to the GE curriculum in P.1–P.6. English teachers adopt appropriate e learning tools, such as Wordwall, Kahoot! and Quizizz, to support students in acquiring English knowledge and facilitating their learning. To help students become more self directed learners, students are encouraged to check the meanings of vocabulary items and play the matching games on Wordwall before starting a new chapter.
To build students’ learning confidence and reduce learning difficulties, tier 2 support is provided for less able students. This year, pull out classes are arranged for some P.3 students, and a co teaching approach is adopted in P.3 English lessons. In addition, morning tutorial lessons are offered to selected P.2 and P.4 students to strengthen their English foundation and improve their language skills.
The English Star Programme is launched for selected P.5 and P.6 students to further enhance their English proficiency and better prepare them for the Pre Secondary 1 Examination. Through targeted learning tasks, focused skills practice, and additional language support, the programme aims to strengthen students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities, enabling them to build confidence and perform more effectively in the assessment.
To enhance English teachers’ professionalism and promote students’ positive values and attitudes, the school has joined the Learning Hub @ The NET Section offered by the EDB. Through this support, the English team aims to integrate values education into English lessons and activities in order to cultivate students’ positive values and thinking.

Three English lessons per week are dedicated to the PLPRW programme in P.1–P.3. The programme provides students with opportunities to integrate all language skills — with a particular focus on reading and writing — to make language learning comprehensive, consistent and enjoyable. Six units of work are covered each year, supported by a range of related resources such as big books, small books and phonics books. In addition, e learning resources have been developed to enhance student learning and allow learning to continue beyond the classroom. Multiple teaching strategies are employed, including shared reading, shared writing and guided reading. Students learn in various groupings, including whole class, group, pair and individual settings. Levelled worksheet packages are also used to consolidate learning and cater for students’ diverse abilities.

Three English lessons per week are dedicated to the Keys2 programme in P.4–P.6. The programme aims to develop students’ reading and writing skills progressively throughout Key Stage 2 by strengthening and building upon the skills acquired in Key Stage 1. Each year level covers four units of work, exposing students to a variety of authentic texts and supporting their writing development through shared writing and process writing. Levelled worksheet packages are designed to help students consolidate their learning and organise their ideas for process writing. The programme also provides writing checklists and self assessment tools to enhance students’ awareness of their own progress. In addition, e learning options are available for students to publish their writing and share it with others.
